New Guitar
So after coming back from my trip to Edmonton I had extra room in luggage to bring home my beloved guitar. I bought a nice cedar acoustic steel string guitar a few years ago, and it just doesn’t feel right not having it around.
Mind you, I really suck at guitar and I can barely play but it’s nice to have one to fiddle around with. In buying my first guitar, I quickly realized that I’m not much of a “strumming” type of player. I never really took the time to learn chords to strum songs.
Yes, chords are easy to learn and knowing a good 10 chords enables anyone to play 90% of all popular songs out there, but I just never took the time to learn it. Instead, I went the classical guitar route, where finger picking and playing blisteringly fast notes are key.
I loved the sound and style of classical guitar, but I had this huge steel string guitar to practice on. So I learned a few songs on it, but in such a bastardized and poor way that I probably would’ve been better off not learning it in the first place!
So I brought the guitar home, started practicing, and Renata loved the fact that I played an instrument (well, sorta played…). I told her that I was going to go out and invest in a nice nylon stringed classical guitar, and that I’m going to pick one up soon.
Just last Friday, I was wonderfully surprised to find a brand new and beautiful classical guitar sitting in the trunk of Renata’s car. It has been the best gift I’ve ever had, and I’m totally in love with it. It’s got such a nice tone and it’s beautifully constructed.
The guitar is so incredibly sensitive that I have to relearn everything that I’ve taught myself over the years and I have to try to play “properly”. Luckily so, Renata hasn’t yet become annoyed with my terrible practice sessions.
Hopefully with a little diligence I’ll be able to make it work, and I’ll be able to hammer out a few songs that are at least audible. ![]()
