Feels just like last summer.
Strangely enough, this summer feels a heckuvalot like last summer.
Days and weeks go buy in a complete blur as I’ve been so utterly busy. Lately the big thing has been Ultimate. Renata plays Ultimate sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. I’ve been having my fair share too of practices and games, yet we never seem to tire of it. Just like last summer, we sunk ourselves into the game and filled our already-busy schedules with it.
One of the good things about this is that I’m definitely starting to feel a lot more healthier. Ultimate is an athletically demanding game, as it involves a ton of endurance and speed. Games sometimes last a good two hours, during which you’ll often be sprinting full tilt on your shifts. Sprinting down the field 3 times a week does a body good :-). It’s a definite change in the right direction compared to my half year spent as a student/sloth.
The summer season is starting to close though, and we only have 3 more regular season games before playoffs. It’s sad to see it coming to an end, as Renata has decided to give up being the team captain, leaving the fate of the Buddha Bellies up in the air for the fall season. I’ve met a bunch of really fun and enthusiastic people through the team, and I’d hate to lose what we’ve built. Hopefully someone will pick up the reins and lead the team this fall.
However, I’m getting picked up by Renata’s team Rainbow Trout, which plays at a higher level. This means that I’ll have to bust ass and train to become more agile and fast. My strongest position on the team is as the handler (kinda similar to the quarterback in football), but I’ll probably need to improve as a striker and a defender. Handler’s generally don’t sprint and run as often as a striker would, as most of their skill is in passing the disc. However, as a striker I’ll have to improve my speed and endurance.
Last week I took out some pylons and did some running drills. Shuttle runs will help me with my speed, but I quickly found out that they totally kick my ass. A set for a shuttle run is 6 reps of sprinting between two pylons 25 yards apart, totaling 300 yards per set. I couldn’t even finish a set, as I managed to get in 200 yards before gassing out. It looks like I’ve got a long ways yet before I can get my legs up to speed.
Anyways, I’m looking forward to my new team and finishing off a great season.

Hi,
I read your message on WP about writing a program that uses xmlrpc to post a daily report to your blog. Did you ever write or find such a program in PHP?
I need this very badly.
